A guide to becoming a member of the Heavenly Demons Clan in the game 9dragons

Based on the guide from Zanpakutou on mmosite.com and my experience following that guide to successful completion.

This is a guide to becoming a member of the clan of Heavenly Demons in the game 9dragons.

From my research I gathered that this is the most difficult clan to enter in the game.

I found a good guide and followed it mostly and successfully entered the clan.

I am a retired procedure writer so I downloaded the original guide, added my notes to it and edited it to this format.

It is not fully verbatim to the original guide and just in a new format.

There were areas where I departed from the guide to my detriment and I did not include them.

There were areas where I departed from the guide to my benefit and I did include this in this new guide.

I do thank Zanpakutou for putting me on the path to a successful entry into the clan of the Heavenly Demons.

Hopefully this guide can do the same for you.

*****

This is a leveling, basic quest, gear and stat build guide for completing the trials to become a Heavenly Demon clan member.

It is not a microscopically detailed walk through.

There are many lessons to be learned on the path to the trials of the clan of the Heavenly Demons.

I will not spoil all of them by trying to teach them to you in advance.

There will be moments of sarcasm in the following guide.

Do not confuse them with moments of arrogance or pomposity.

There will be moments of arrogance and pomposity in the following guide.

Do not confuse them with moments of sarcasm.

If you wish to tread the path of the Heavenly Demon, this is a way to begin.

This is a way to become a Heavenly Demon.

This is not the only way.

This a way that can work.

This is not the only way that can work.

This way is not a guarantee.

This way is not a promise.

This way is a possibility.

You have to face the trials in your own way.

You have to desire to follow your own path.

This guide will assist you.

This guide will inhibit and distract you.

Ultimately it is all up to you.

Character creation:

BEGINNING STATS
Strength 11
Essence 8
Wisdom 8
Constitution 10
Dexterity 13

You can swap the values for strength and dexterity for this and all the suggestions below.

I have gained entry into the heavenly demons with a strength build that didn't follow these guidelines at all.

The dexterity build has four advantages:

1: It increases dodge so you don't get hit as often. The strength build improves defense so you don't get hit for as much physical damage when you get hit but you dodge less.

2: The dexterity build potentially trains skills faster than the strength as it does less damage and you have to hit mobs more often. The strength build kills faster but you may have to lose some time doing remedial kung fu training if you level too quickly.

3: The Cloud Sachets you buy later in the guide improve dodge and not defense. You will have a VERY respectable dodge ability for the final Heavenly Demon's trial by following this guide.

4: A Dexterity build will not hit for as much per swing but will crit more often.

Start in Wu Tang starter area.

Starting in Wu Tang and doing the local quests for the 'old man' will allow you access to Wu Tang fist, sword and light foot kung fu styles even if you do not join the Wu Tang Clan.

If you join another clan that is not Wu Tang, you will lose your Wu Tang styles and they will be replaced by clan kung fu styles after you are awarded them or purchase them.

After each quest completion from the old man in Wu Tang check your inventory for items and your kung fu list for new kung fu styles if there was a (?) reward icon for quest completion.

Avoid story teller quests until you have decided upon a clan. You can do all the story teller quests up to the third quest in all starter zones, however. The xp isn't terrific and they are expensive, almost 2,000 gold to complete all three in each zone, to do especially at low levels. That would be around 12,000 gold to complete them all. You also will not be able to do the 4th story teller quest until you choose a clan. That is the one that matters for your future progress.

"no level"

Skip the tutorial if you wish.

Complete the tutorial if you wish.

Do the quest for basic meditation from the old man.

Basic meditation is how you heal.

Basic meditation is also a damage/defense buff.

Basic meditation can be trained for 'free' if used at cheng 1 of the skill. Keep it on and at cheng 1 to have it trained as high as possible for the 'chimera mosh pit' fight which is the last test of the Heavenly Demons.

Do not sell drops that are typical 'vendor trash' as referred to in terms of other games. Most everything in 9dragons that falls into this category can be turned in for goodies if you have enough of them and are the proper level.

Sell weapons that you cannot use because of their weapon type. For purposes of this guide that will be any weapons that are not gloves or swords. Sabers do not count as swords so sell them unless you find a really nice one that you can use at level 25.

If any step requires you to spend money and you do not have it, be patient, kill more stuff and you will get it. Pay for it when you can.

Work on gathering 60 gold, and 15 Fox skins.

At 30 gold buy training gloves and train basic fist.

At the next 30 gold buy training sword and train basic sword.

After you get basic fist or sword ALWAYS keep your choice of style active so you continue to train it while fighting and so that you do more damage than the base 'sissy' punches or untrained sword hacks.

Work on getting basic fist to rank 2. This is needed for a quest.

Work on getting basic sword to rank 2. This is needed for a quest.

You can also turn the cheng level of your attacks down after they advance. This helps with skill ups because hitting for less damage means you will have to hit more frequently and gain more skill. And is not a noticeable handicap in most fights.

I suggest fighting at cheng 1 of any style for increased skill up opportunity at least until it hits rank 5.

If you have to fight a boss mob change the attack to the highest cheng ranking you have trained to.

If you get swarmed by adds, turn the cheng level up to the highest ranking you have trained to unless you are sure you can handle them at cheng 1.

If you get swarmed by mobs it is a good idea to RUN if you cannot handle all of them.

Some mobs like blood wolves, zombies, thieves, bandits and brigands and the chimeras WILL swarm some times or all of the time.

Learn to handle swarms and know when to run or you won't survive the final test for Heavenly Demons.

I successfully finished the last Heavenly Demon challenge at Cheng 5 of Wu Tang basic sword.

It is fun to fight with Wu Tang kung fu in the Heavenly Demon areas. It makes people who do not realize that you can use Wu Tang and Heavenly Demon kung fu while still a vagabond ask silly questions of you.

Odds are they are vagabonds who are using Heavenly Demon styles and are not bright enough to figure out that they are using styles for a clan they are not accepted in yet either. They will be dinner for the Chimerae.

Meditate before talking to a quest giver. Some of the quests are timed quests where you need to run somewhere and do something or kill mobs.

If you lose time by meditating after taking a timed quest you can fail these easily. You can always re-take them but this can be avoided if you are always ready for a timed quest when you talk to a quest giver in first place.

Not every quest is a timed one, but if you do not have enough life or vital energy before you start one that is timed, it is almost a sure thing you will fail it.

Losing Self 1:
Strength +1
Constitution +1
Dexterity +2

(Do not use this stat model after the guide is over, it doesn't scale well after level 24 and at times it can be difficult prior to level 24 due to a relatively low vital energy pool.

The final trial is not a terribly long fight, it has a 5 minute time limit, and you will probably have to meditate once or twice during it for health reasons and not vital energy reasons. A low vital energy pool won't matter much then. A high dodge and defense will.)

Open your character menu and click on 'living'. There will be a collector quest there. Drop Tobacco Leaves, Pouches, and Big Pouches in the appropriate slots. When you get to Hefei turn this in for a GENDER APPROPRIATE chest slot armor. It is basically a free piece of 2 pocket chest armor with decent enhancements on it.

Buy the best possible sword from the local blacksmith if you are using sword techniques to level.

Buy the best possible gloves from the local blacksmith if you are using hand and foot techniques to level.

Exit strategy:
You may easily now join any clan besides Wu Tang or Heavenly Demon and have access to all of their basic kung fu. If you do, stop following this guide. Continuing to follow it will get you brutally killed by various clan guards.

Start fighting Young Blood Wolves. Unless you are an experienced player you will probably die quite a bit. Learn from this. Running off to meditate is a good strategy. Blood Wolves swarm. If you can't keep a cool head and fight swarms and live refer to the Exit Strategy in Gathering chi 1.

The Chimerae in the final test for Heavenly Demons swarm and you will be limited to where you can run and meditate. You also have to farm drops that only drop from mobs at about an 80% drop rate. You also have to get 5 drops from them in 5 minutes or less. If fighting swarms is not your thing, by all means refer to the Exit Strategy in Gathering chi 1.

Collect 50 Blood wolf Hides and 5 Blood Wolf Claws.

By this time you should easily have farmed your first Blood Essence. It is not required for entering the Heavenly Demon clan. Nothing is but finishing their tests. Having a Blood Essence to sell to gear up is not required but is suggested by this guide. If you are choosing not to follow this guide by now, why have you read this far?

Go to Hefei.

Go to the Collector and turn in your quest for a gender appropriate shirt.

Practice running using the light foot technique. I succeeded all of the Heavenly Demon timed quests that involved running with time to spare with Wu Tang basic light foot at cheng 8. You don't have to train it to cheng 8 but I do not have data on the success of lower cheng ratings of light foot.

Run laps around Hefei to train up your light foot. Throw in a couple of dvds or videos and keep training it. If boring training for the sake of training is not your thing, log out of 9dragons and dust off your Super Mario Kart cartridge and get at it. I'm serious.

Open a stand and sell your blood essence. 150,000 gold is a fair price. Resellers try to buy them for 120,000 on my server to mark up and sell at a profit. Sell it yourself and you get to keep their mark up.

If you set up your stand in front of the master refiner and make the stand title simple and to the point it should sell at 150,000 in 30 minutes or less.

Buy the following:

A pair of gender appropriate 2 pocket pants (not in Hefei).

A Gathering chi cheng 12 sword or gloves (not in Hefei).

The rank 1 and rank 2 refiner upgrades (sleeping and crouching dragon bloods, 1 each) from the general merchant in Hefei.

4 Cloud Sachets [10k gold each] that boost hp by 40 and dodge by 30 from the general merchant at Hefei.

Upgrade your Gahtering chi sword [or gloves] at the master refiner at Hefei by dragging your weapon to the refine dialog box, followed by the rank 1 refining component.

Click ok, this should cost you 1k gold.

Repeat with your +1 weapon and the rank 2 component.

This will cost you 3k gold.

Equip your new shirt and pants.

Equip your Cloud sachets and dodge like a fiend now. Enjoy your extra hit points.

Go to Wu Tang, Shaolin, Beggars, Thieves, and Divine Flowers. Do their quest for trinkets.

Skip Heavenly Demons until it is time to start their clan trials.

Gathering trinkets is pretty much a moot point now because of your Cloud Cachets but they give you a chance to visit other clan areas and pick up some easy quests.

There will be at least 2 quests per area. Most quests for trinkets will be at a hunter on the outskirts of town and most will want Blood Wolf hides. Some will want other things.

The trinket quests award a quest drop that you can usually trade in to another npc in town via a quest that appears after winning the trinket. Complete these quests to get a better trinket by turning in the one you just earned.

The remaining quest after this in most areas is the quest that directs you to clan membership. Don't be afraid to have a change of heart and join one of these clans that are not Wu Tang or Heavenly Demons. If you join another clan see the exit strategy in Gathering chi 1.

Blood Wolves should be easy to trivial by now.

You can start clan trials for Wu Tang or Heavenly Demons now.

I did the first time I made a Heavenly Demon.

I believe it would be easier and faster to complete the trials by leveling to Gathering chi 12 100% xp though.

There are as many paths to enlightenment as there are seekers of enlightenment, but have I steered you wrong so far?

Wu Tang vs Heavenly Demons I have nothing against Wu Tang. In real life I would call myself a Taoist if nothing else. Wu Tang are Taoists.

I have no data on what it takes to enter the Wu Tang school besides heresay that it is simpler than joining Heavenly Demons.

I will tell you one thing. Wu Tang students don't hover in a column of fire when meditating like my demon does.

Hovering in a column of fire while meditating is cool.

If you want to go to Wu Tang now, be my guest.

If you want to go to any clan you want, be my guest.

If you want to enter the school of the Heavenly Demons, read on.

If you choose to leave this guide and pursue your career as a Heavenly Demon you will probably succeed if you have been motivated to follow this guide this far. Go and start the quest for their trinket, story teller and entry into the clan.

But if you level until Gathering Chi 12 and 100% xp all of the trials except for the last will be trivial and you will burn thru the trials as fast as demoniacally possible.

Fight Iron Clad Zombies in the Heavenly Demons home zone by the exit to Shi Zhang until Gathering chi 10 or 11.

You should burn through them and level quickly. They will swarm and you will not care if you are destined to be a Heavenly Demon.

Skip all the quests in this zone for the moment.

Gathering chi 9:
Strength +1
Constitution +1
Dexterity +2

Increase the mastery of your weapon of choice if possible.

Continue steps above and quest as needed.

Gathering chi 10:
Strength +1
Constitution +1
Dexterity +2

Increase the mastery of your weapon of choice if possible.

Continue steps above and quest as needed.

Gathering chi 11:
Strength +1
Constitution +1
Dexterity +2

Increase the mastery of your weapon of choice if possible.

Continue steps above and quest as needed.

Fight the mobs (slow walking dual wielding females, slow walking mace wielding males, I do not recall their proper names) by the mound south west of the exit to Hefei and collect 20 Cases and 5 Golden cases.

With this done, you just completed the next to the last trial and you have not even received it yet. I told you your progress would be fast.

Level to Gathering chi 12 and 100% xp to Opening Chi 1, but DO NOT DO THE CHI BREATHING TO UNLOCK Opening Chi 1.

Gathering chi 12:
Strength +1
Essence +1
Constitution +1
Dexterity +1

Increase the mastery of your weapon of choice if possible.

Continue steps above and quest as needed.

Level to 100% of the xp needed for the next level but do not do the chi breathing you might miss getting the quests for your first clan cap and clan trousers.

'Might' is a strong enough word for me to heed this warning. The hat is easily replaceable after you enter the clan but the trousers are awesome and you will be wearing them for a while.

Do all of the quests in the Heavenly Demon starting zone including the trials to become a Heavenly Demon.

You will probably fail the final trial at least once. You only truly fail when you stop trying.

If the final trial of the Heavenly Demons is too difficult for you, design your own exit strategy because all that is in this guide has not helped you to achieve this step of enlightenment. Why follow it further?

Upon completion of the Heavenly Demon trials, you will lose your Wu Tang skills. You will have earned the basic heavenly demon saber, fist techniques and light foot during the trials though.

Buy a Saber. Your sword is useless to you now.

Go to Shi Zhang.

You can buy a better saber here than in the starter area.

Do all the quests in Shi Zhang.

You should have earned your clan headgear and clan trousers by the time you have completed your quests here.

Play the Chi Breathing Mini game.

Opening chi 1:

Do what you want with your stats. You are a Heavenly Demon.

Their only rule is OBEY why should you obey me any longer?

I only gave you a rough and faulty map to follow but you made the journey yourself.

It will be to your benefit, however to complete your Golden Dragon quest so that you may choose your role in the clan.

You get to meditate now in a column of fire. Is that cool or what?
