When you enter the game you may find a "Spear" icon in the middle of the shortcuts, when the icon is grey it means the character is now in "Normal" mode and can not attack mobs or enemy.

Use your mouse to left click on the "Spear" icon or simply by pressing the "Tab" key you may switch to "Attack" mode.
